Health Science Students Score on TAP Exam

Health Science cluster students took their TAP exam last Friday to receive 3 college credit hours for AHS 102 , Medical Terminology course.  We had a record setting 37 students pass the exam, and receive this credit - many of them on the sophomore level.  The students have worked hard to achieve this goal, and Dr. Lewis, the Dean of Health Science at TriCounty, was extremely enthusiastic about the students' accomplishment.  Congratulations, Health Science Students, Mrs. Evatt and Mrs. Teusch.

9th Grade Honors Biology Students Take CU Biology Merit Exam
A group of 9th grade honors biology students competed in the Clemson University Biology Merit Exam for the first time this year. This was a college-level exam and gave our students the opportunity to experience life as a college freshman biology student.  Please congratulate Chloe Standridge as she is receiving a medal as a 2nd-honorable mention for her score.  To have someone place for our first year attending is exciting. The test is VERY difficult!  Congratulations, Chloe and Mrs. Rebekah Carter.
FFA Wildlife Management Team Wins State
On February 6th the Pendleton FFA Wildlife Management Team traveled to Horry Georgetown Technical College in Georgetown, SC, to compete in the State FFA Wildlife Management Competition. With over 30 teams involved from across the Palmetto State, PHS students took the State Title and were named the 2016 South Carolina FFA Wildlife Champions. Not only did they possess the highest team score but they also took all of the individually recognized positions as well.

Highest Scoring Individual - Leah Burdette
Second Highest Scoring Individuals (tied) - Justin Allen and Kaylee Wooten

For the competition our students were responsible for identifying and understanding the ecology of South Carolina mammals, game-birds and waterfowl, fish, reptiles and amphibians. They had to complete a practicum in invasive species management and habitat management. FFA members had to identify 50 plants by sight and complete a 50 question test on ecology and wildlife management.  The team scored whitetail deer antlers and used jawbone ageing techniques to determine the age and health of a deer population. Principles of osteology were also used to identify mammals.

Team members included:
Justin Allen
Brayley Atkins
Leah Burdette
Kennedy Harrison
Kaylee Wooten

This marks the 5th Consecutive Wildlife Win and the 37th State Championship Title since 2010.  They will compete nationally next October at the National FFA Convention In Indianapolis.
